SHILLONG: The Supreme Court has directed CM Jha, the absconding Chancellor of CMJ University, to report at CID headquarters here on September 20 for interrogation.

Jha had obtained interim anticipatory bail from the Supreme Court on July 19, but he did not join the investigation though it was mandatory.

The State Government, however, has challenged the interim bail order.

After hearing the matter on Monday, the Court asked Jha to appear before CID on Friday.

“Jha has been directed to report to the CID headquarters at Shillong on September 20 at 11 am for interrogation”, said Ranjan Mukherjee, the senior counsel for Meghalaya Government over phone from Delhi. The case will come up again for hearing on September 27.

Earlier, the CID had summoned Jha to appear before the investigating officer on August 23, but in vain.

Instead of appearing before the investigating officer, Jha had communicated through his lawyer that he was not well and hence he could not join in investigation.

According to Mukherjee, the claim of Jha that he was sick was just an excuse and this is the last opportunity for him to co-operate with the CID.

“Getting an interim bail is not a license to skip the investigation process”, Mukherjee added.
