SHILLONG: The Meghalaya High Court on Monday reserved its judgement on the PIL challenging the scheduled tribe (ST) status of Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma.

After hearing both the parties, a Division Bench of the High Court comprising Justice TNK Singh and Justice SR Sen decided to study the maintainability of the petition filed by one Tennydard M. Marak.

During the hearing, both the parties were asked to produce the Reservation of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe Act and Rules of Meghalaya and a brochure on Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe published and issued by the Centre.

“As of now, the High Court has reserved the judgement and it will decide on the matter very soon,” a senior advocate told The Shillong Times here on Monday.

Earlier, the Advocate General KS Kynjing, who appeared on behalf of the State Government, had challenged the maintainability of the PIL, which alleged that Dr Sangmahad fraudulently obtained the ST certificate.
