Shillong, September 17: Google Chrome is set to roll out a “read aloud” feature for desktop users, mirroring a function found in Microsoft Edge, and currently available in the Canary version for testing.

This new feature allows users to have articles read aloud, with the ability to adjust the playback speed to their preference, as reported by BleepingComputer.

Future updates will expand the feature, providing users with the option to switch between various voice choices, enhancing the auditory experience.

As per IANS, the read aloud feature has a user-friendly interface design, where the narrated article highlights the sentence being read, while sections that have been read fade out. This visual cue enables users to easily track their reading progress, and for those who find it distracting, Chrome has included a button to turn off the highlighting.

Additionally, Chrome is enhancing its overall visual appeal, as mentioned in the report.

Meanwhile, Google has introduced another Chrome feature that alerts users when an extension they have installed is no longer available in the Chrome Web Store. This notification will occur in three specific cases: when the developer unpublishes the extension, when it is removed for violating Chrome Web Store policies, or when it is flagged as malware. This feature will be available starting in Chrome 117.

These updates aim to provide Chrome users with a more immersive and secure browsing experience.
