Shillong, September 22: The administration of Jamia Masjid in the Nowhatta area of old Srinagar has announced that senior police officials paid a visit to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq’s residence on Thursday.

As per IANS, police informed him of his release from house arrest, granting him permission to attend Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid.

Mirwaiz Umar Farooq had been under house arrest at his Nigeen residence on the outskirts of the city since August 5, 2019, following the abrogation of Article 370, as stated by the senior leader and his supporters.

However, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has contradicted this claim, stating to some reporters that the senior cleric is provided security for his safety and is otherwise free to move as he pleases. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and his supporters vehemently dispute this assertion.
