TURA, Sep 22: The Garo Hills Youth Organisation (GHYO) has written to the Director of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) in Shillong urging him to introduce a ‘Special Written Test’ during recruitment of teachers, in line with the policy adopted by the Assam government, for free and fair selection of deserving candidates.
In its letter to the official, the organization alleged that some of the students undergoing B.Ed courses in other states like west Bengal are only attending to sit for their exams but can be seen the whole year round in their native villages, away from their classes.
“Some students who are doing their B.Ed. courses in the state of West Bengal have been known to only sit for their examinations but are not attending their regular classes. They are also seen the whole year at their native, home, doing other works, irrespective of the fact that a minimum percentage of attendance in the class is mandatory for the students who are doing the said course to make themselves more professionally trained and qualified to become a teacher,” GHYO president, Nazmul Hashan claimed in his letter.
Hashan pointed out that students from the state who undergo B.Ed courses with full attendance and by following the guidelines of the NCTE and other rules and regulations, have to compete with those that acquire their degrees from other states, which is an injustice.
