Shillong, September 27: The Bihar education department has taken the step of striking off the names of 3,32,000 students from government schools due to prolonged unexplained absence.

This action was initiated because these students were absent from school for more than 15 days without providing prior notice or a valid reason.

As per IANS, while the education department had requested parents to submit affidavits explaining their children’s absence, a significant number failed to comply. Consequently, the department decided to take this measure, as stated by an official on Tuesday.

The breakdown of removed students includes 46,000 from Class 4, 44,000 from Class 5, 39,000 from Class 6, and the remainder from various other classes.

The education department has previously emphasized that students must maintain a 75 percent attendance rate to be eligible for board examinations. Furthermore, if a student is absent from school for three consecutive days, they are required to submit an application to the principal with valid reasons. Failure to provide a valid reason may result in the need to submit an affidavit to the school’s principal.
