Shillong, October 1: In a remarkable display of shooting prowess, the Indian men’s team, comprising Kynan Chenai, Zoravar Singh Sandhu, and Prithviraj Tondaiman, secured the gold medal in the Trap event on Sunday, further solidifying India’s outstanding performance in shooting at the Asian Games 2023.

As per India Today, India outshone competitors from Kuwait and China, claiming the top position on the podium, elevating India’s shooting medal count to a staggering 21 medals, consisting of 7 gold, 9 silver, and 5 bronze. The victory not only earned them team gold but also granted Chenai and Sandhu spots in the individual final.

The Indian trio amassed a total of 361 points, surpassing Kuwait’s 352 and China’s 346 points.

Earlier in the day, India also secured a silver medal in the women’s trap team event. Rajeshwari Kumari, Manisha Keer, and Preeti Rajak achieved second place with a score of 337 points, trailing behind China.

The remarkable performance of Indian shooters in the 2023 Asian Games marked a redemption of sorts, following their disappointing showing at the Tokyo Olympics. Led by former world champion Rudrankksh Patil and Olympian Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, the Indian shooting contingent, consisting of 33 members, competed across rifle, pistol, and shotgun events.

With a total of 21 medals, this is India’s most successful performance in shooting in the history of the Asian Games. Notable gold medalists include Sarabjot Singh, who excelled in the men’s 10m air pistol, and Divya TS, a key contributor to India’s silver medal in the women’s 10m air pistol.

The outstanding achievements also featured gold medalists like Sift Kaur Samra in Women’s 50m rifle 3 positions, Palak Gulia in Women’s 10m air pistol, and the teams of Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Swapnil Kusale, Akhil Sheoran in Men’s 50m rifle 3 positions, Manu Bhaker, Rhythm Sangwan, Esha Singh in Women’s 25m sports pistol, and Rudrankksh Patil, Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Divyansh Singh Panwar in Men’s 10m air rifle.
