SHILLONG, Oct 2: The central government has reduced the prices of LPG cylinders by Rs 158 with an eye on the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, but the high prices of petrol and diesel continue to burn a hole in one’s pocket.
Residents in Shillong are paying Rs 97.98 per litre of petrol.
A city-based fuel pump owner said the price of petrol was increased by 50 paise around 10 days back after the state government increased the taxes on fuel.
Meanwhile, in a huge setback for consumers, public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) have increased the prices of 19-kg commercial LPG cylinders by a whopping Rs 209. LPG cylinder rates are revised on the first day of each month.
From October 1, a 19-kg commercial cylinder will now sell for Rs 1,962 in Shillong. The same cylinder will be available for Rs 1,731.50 in Delhi, Rs 1,684 in Mumbai, Rs 1,839.50 in Kolkata and Rs 1,898 in Chennai.
All hopes are now pinned on a cut in fuel and LPG prices as the country heads towards the Lok Sabha polls next year.
