SHILLONG: Wallambok Lyngdoh, a member of the Meghalaya Rock Climbing and Mountaineering Association, scaled Mt Kuchela Dhura, a 6,294m peak in the Himalayas in Uttarakhand during an August 18-September 18 expedition.

This was the first ever ascent of the mountain.

Lyngdoh, a resident of Upper Lumparing, was one of two Meghalayans in the national expedition, the other being Banshngain-lang Nongkynrih of Sohra.

Nongkynrih, however, despite his best effort, could not reach the summit because of altitude sickness.

Two other members of the 10-person team were also from the North East – KK Shandilya (Assam) and C Zoramsanga (Mizoram).
