Shillong, Oct 8: In a significant development, Umpling is gearing up to receive a mini indoor stadium and an indoor sports complex, thanks to the generous funding extended by the State Sports Council.
These two promising projects have received the green light from the state government, owing to the proactive efforts of KHADC CEM, Pyniaid Sing Syiem, who also serves as the local MDC representing the Sohryngkham constituency.
The exciting announcement was made on Sunday by Syiem, who disclosed that a substantial amount of Rs 4.30 crore was sanctioned in December of the previous year for the construction of the mini indoor stadium. Adding to the good news, Syiem revealed that an additional Rs 3 crore has been recently approved for the development of the indoor sports complex.
Furthermore, the KHADC CEM underscored the commitment of the KHADC (Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council) in enhancing sports infrastructure. To this end, he mentioned that the KHADC will allocate Rs 50 lakh from the untied grant provided through the 15th Finance Commission for the improvement of the Umpling football ground.
Syiem said that, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma is expected to lay the foundation stone for both the mini indoor stadium and the indoor sports complex.
