SHILLONG, Oct 15: The HYC has elected its new president after Robertjune Kharjahrin decided not to contest anymore.
Roy Kupar Synrem, who was holding the post of secretary, was elected as the new president during the meeting of the organisation’s General Executive Committee (GEC) on Saturday.
Kharjahrin will now hold the position of a chief adviser.
Asked if he has plans to join politics, the former HYC president denied such a notion while stating that he is still part and parcel of the organisation.
On reports that he is among the contenders for the UDP ticket to contest from the Shillong Parliamentary seat, Kharjahrin said that this is a speculation in the media.  “I have nothing to comment on this,” he said.
The GEC meeting, which was attended by the presidents and secretaries of the various units, circles and the women’s wing of the organisation, elected new office-bearers of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) for a period of three years (2023-2026).
Besides Roy, the other office-bearers who were elected include Donboklang Kharlyngdoh and Francis Gee Mawlong (vice presidents), Remdor G Saibon (general secretary), Issac W Basaiawmoit and Lumlang Kharsyiemlieh (secretaries) and Daniel Syiem, Mandor Swer, Yoohunki Shylla and Pynskhem Kharjahrin (joint secretaries).
