Tura, Oct 17: The opening day of the three-day extravaganza to celebrate 50 years of MBoSE began with a bike rally from the campus by NH51, MBOSE staff and schools ending at Green Haven, New Tura on Tuesday morning.
The bike rally is part of a series of events that are being held to celebrate MBoSE’s golden jubilee from October 17, 18 and 19.
The second day will witness Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar gracing the occasion as chief guest, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma as guest of honour, Commissioner & Secretary, Education Department Pravin Bakshi as special guest and the afternoon session will include academic discourse by different distinguished speakers on ‘The Spread of Education in Meghalaya.
On the last day of the celebration Chief Minister Conrad Sangma will grace the occasion as chief guest.
From a humble beginning with only 3000 students in 1973, the board now handles over 1 lakh students of the secondary and higher secondary sections of education in the state, retired IFS and executive chairman of MBoSE CP Marak said.
“We now have our own land both in Tura and in Shillong. We have grown both in infrastructure and manpower. We have come a long way. In the future the numbers will definitely rise and we are gearing up to ensure we keep abreast with time,” he said.
“The whole idea of the programmes is to give an idea to reflect the achievements of the board. We have programmes relating to academic discourse, culture, sports among others.”
