SHILLONG, Oct 19: Cabinet Minister and senior UDP leader, Paul Lyngdoh has declared his opposition to unlawful check gates and collecting.
He stated that those illegal gates need to be closed even as he stated that he was unsure of their exact number.
The minister made the remark against the backdrop of a bitter dispute between the UDP and NPP on the subject of collecting money from unauthorised toll gates on national highways.
The UDP has requested that the KHADC and the state government move quickly to shut down the illegitimate toll gates that are in operation in Meghalaya. In retaliation, KHADC CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem asserted that UDP supporters were among those recently detained by the police on suspicion of participating in an unlawful collection at the council’s forest check gate in Mawlai Mawiong.
