Mawkyrwat, Oct 25: In a heartfelt tribute to the late Rowell Lyngdoh, a former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Mawkyrwat Constituency and former Deputy Chief Minister of Meghalaya, the Mawlangwir Sports Club and the Dorbar Shnong of Mawlangwir village, located just one kilometer from Mawkyrwat in the South West Khasi Hills District, have officially renamed the Saitsnad Stadium, Mawlangwir.
Henceforth, it will be known as the ‘Rowell Lyngdoh Stadium.’
Rowell Lyngdoh was an exemplary leader in the South West Khasi Hills District, renowned for his significant contributions to the advancement of the Mawkyrwat area. His efforts were instrumental in the establishment of the Civil Sub-Division in Mawkyrwat in 1982 and the South West Khasi Hills District in 2012.
Not only did Lyngdoh devote himself to the betterment of Mawkyrwat, but he also played a vital role in the overall development of his birthplace, Mawlangwir village. The Mawlangwir Sports Club, with his dedicated support, successfully transformed the Saitsnad Football Field into one of the district’s finest stadiums. In honor of Lyngdoh’s lasting impact, the decision to rename the Saitsnad Stadium was made today.
The foundation stone for the ‘Rowell Lyngdoh Stadium’ was inaugurated in a poignant ceremony by his children, W. Saiborne, Tennyson Saiborne, Felicity Saiborne, and Mebandonnam Saiborne. They were joined by the Myntri of Mawlangwir village, N.S. Wanniang, as well as leaders of the Mawlangwir Sports Club and officials from the Mawlangwir village dorbar.
Speaking at the event, Myntri N.S. Wanniang expressed the delight of the Mawlangwir village dorbar over the decision to rename the stadium in honor of Rowell Lyngdoh. Wanniang emphasized Lyngdoh’s tremendous contributions as a leader, not only to their village but also to the entire district and state, noting that he was a pioneer in the development of the South West Khasi Hills District, making this tribute a fitting gesture of respect.
