SHILLONG: Agitating school and college teachers under the umbrella of the Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Associations of Meghalaya (JACATAM) have issued a three-month ultimatum to the State government for provincialisation of their services.

The ultimatum was served during a meeting between a delegation JACATAM and the State Chief Secretary WMS Pariat held here on Monday.

Besides Pariat, other senior government officials were also present in the meeting.

Talking to media persons later, JACATAM chairman ED Nongsiang said Government has assured the delegation of making a comprehensive study on lines of other states before taking a decision on provincialization of services of teachers working in all the Government aided schools.

While ruing the fact that there is no specific service rule for any categories of teachers in the state, Nongsiang pointed out that there is a disparity in pay structure since Meghalaya has many categories of teachers.

“We also demanded constitution of teachers’ service commission and Government has agreed to it,” Nongsiang said.

During the meeting, JACATAM leaders raised several pertinent issues including revision Class XI and XII MBoSE syllabus to CBSE pattern “since several students sit for national eligibility test for their further studies”.

JACATAM also asked the State Government to open a centre for national entrance exams for post graduate studies in Shillong since students at present have to go to Guwahati to sit in this examination.
