Meghalaya win 5-0 in U-14 Subroto Cup

SHILLONG: St Anthony’s Higher Secondary Shool, who are representing Meghalaya at the under-14 Subroto Cup football tournament in New Delhi, beat Air Force Bal Bharti School, Delhi, 5-0 on Monday.

The Meghalaya team is made up of a majority of St Anthony’s students along with others from around the state.

The scorers in the match were Fourstar Pohshna, Rheodolf Nongneng, Melvin Marbaniang, Kynsailang Khongsit and Wellbokstar Iawphniaw.

Meghalaya are in Pool E of the eight-pool event. They will play Sainik School on Tuesday.

In other matches on the day, NCC (West Bengal & Sikkim) humiliated Viveka-nanda Vidyapeeth, Raipur, Chhattisgarh 12-0.

In another one-sided encounter, Betkuchi High School, Assam, trounced Tyne High School, Srinagar, by nine goals to nil to seal their spot in the last-eight.

Government Middle School Kolasib, Mizoram also staked a claim for the quarters thanks to Lalthansanga’s hat-trick which enabled them to post a 6-0 win over Don Bosco High School, Maharashtra.

In another match, St Xavier’s School, Jharkhand, blanked Mamta Modern Senior Secondary School, Delhi, 4-0.

Defending champions Greenwood School, Naga-land, will face North-eastern English School, Manipur, in a quarterfinal on Tuesday.
