HANM activist arrested

NONGSTOIN: In connection to the cases of arson in Nongstoin, the Nongstoin police authorities arrested another HANM West Khasi Hills District member Gabriel Sohlang, from Nongstoin on Thursday evening.

Speaking to the media, Superintendent of Police, West Khasi Hills, Sylvester Nongtnger said that Sohlang was arrested for being involved in the torching of the PWD EE’s Office, Meghalaya Khadi and Village Industries Board Office, Fisheries Office and the District Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Office in Nongstoin. He added that so far the police were able to nab only two of the arsonists but efforts were on to bring all those responsible to book.

The SP is yet to decide on deporting Sohlang to Shillong.

Meanwhile, reacting to the arrest of another HANM leader, president of the HANM Nongstoin Circle issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the Nongstoin Police authorities to release the two leaders.

He threatened that if after 7pm on Friday, the two HANM leaders were not released, they would resort to necessary action.
