TURA, Nov 10: The All Meghalaya Minorities Labour Union (AMMLU) has sought the cancellation of licenses of several fair price shop dealers based in the plain belt areas of Garo Hills, alleging misappropriation of PDS commodities since 2020 till date.
In its complaint submitted to the SDO (Supply), Dadenggre Sub Division in West Garo Hills, the union demanded the cancelation of licenses of fair price shop dealers from Shidakandi-I and II, Phersakandi-I, II and III, Bowabari-I and II, New Bhaitbari and others for the alleged scam.
“The centre as per the National Food Security Act, 2013 has been distributing two allotments of essential commodities including Covid-19 rations. But they have been distributing only one allotment to the PDS beneficiaries for their personal gain,” AMMLU president, Akhirul Islam said.
According to Islam, ½ a Kg of any commodity per family member is also deducted in the name of office expenses and carrying charge. Islam also claimed that during maintenance of records of the distribution, the undistributed amount is also being recorded in the issue register.
He further went on to allege the formation of a Price Vigilance Committee (PVC) comprising relatives and vested interest persons to supervise the PDS distribution.
The union, while seeking an inquiry into the matter, also demanded that the licenses of the said dealers be terminated to prevent such malpractices.
