Shillong, Nov 10: Former Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah MDC, James Ban Basaiawmoit is likely to join the UDP with the intention to contest the upcoming election in the KHADC.
Sources have revealed that Basaiawmoit is expected to join the UDP shortly.
It has been observed that Basaiawmoit shared a bitter relationship with the sitting Congress MDC of Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah, Pynshngainlang N Syiem ever since he lost the 2019 district council election.
The former Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah MDC felt he was betrayed by Syiem after the latter decided to contest against him.
Basaiawmoit was among the former MDCs who had joined the PDF which was floated by Syiem when he was the CEM of the KHADC ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls.
However, a year later, the present KHADC Deputy CEM surprised many with his decision to contest from Mawkhar-Pynthorumkhrah instead of Mawsynram constituency which he had represented both as MLA and MDC for two consecutive terms.
Basaiawmoit was considered to be one of the loyalists of Syiem after he declined the offer from the Congress to contest from the party in the 2018 polls since he was already committed to contest from the PDF.
Many believe that the six-time MLA of Pynthorumkhrah constituency, Alexander Laloo Hek would have lost the 2018 polls if Basaiawmoit had contested from the Congress.
