Poison Bill

Home Minister Roshan Warjri introduced the Poison (Meghalaya Amendment) Bill, 2013 to regulate the sale and storage of acids and other harmful substances. As per the Bill, all offences will be cognizable and non-bailable. Any person who causes hurt by using corrosive substance such as acid or alkali on the body of any person will be punishable with imprisonment for not less than seven years which may be extended to life imprisonment. Moreover, the accused also has to pay the medical expenses of the victim.

Heritage sites

Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen laid the notification related to the Meghalaya Heritage Rules and Meghalaya Heritage Authority in the Assembly on Friday. The aim of the notification is to conserve heritage sites which will include buildings, artifacts, structures, streets, areas and precincts of historic or aesthetic importance among others.

Food grain control

Food and Civil Supplies Minister Clement Marak laid the notification relating to the Meghalaya Food grains (Public Distribution System) control (Amendment) order 2012.

Varsity Bill

Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Education, Prof. RC Laloo, introduced the Meghalaya Private Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2013 to empower the Meghalaya Governor to be the Visitor of the University of Technology and Management and Mahatma Gandhi University.
