Shillong, Nov 26: In a challenging encounter at the Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day match in Jaipur on Saturday, Meghalaya faced a 77-run defeat against Chhattisgarh, despite commendable performances by several players, including Lerry Sangma and Jaskirat Singh Sachdeva.
Opting to field after winning the toss, Meghalaya aimed to contain Chhattisgarh’s batting onslaught. Chhattisgarh posted a formidable total of 290/7 in their allotted 50 overs.
Lerry Sangma, the seventh bowler in action, bowled only four overs but managed to make a significant impact, claiming three wickets for 28 runs, albeit at a slightly higher economy rate.
Other contributors with the ball included Akash Kumar Choudhury (2/61 in 10 overs), Dippu Ch Sangma (1/49 in 10), and Rajesh Bishnoi (1/55 in 10).
Lerry Sangma, who had previously showcased his batting prowess in the T20 campaign of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, once again displayed his all-round abilities.
Batting at No. 7, Lerry scored a brisk 51 from 49 deliveries, featuring two sixes and an equal number of fours. Jaskirat Singh Sachdeva, in only his second appearance for the senior team, contributed a notable 42 runs from 46 balls, including five boundaries.
Kishan Lyngdoh added a handy 37 runs (4x4s) from 65 balls. Despite these efforts, Meghalaya fell short of the target, being bowled out for 213.
Looking ahead, Meghalaya is gearing up to face Jharkhand in their upcoming match scheduled for Monday, seeking a turnaround in their fortunes in the ongoing tournament. As the team readies itself for the next challenge, the players aim to regroup and deliver a resilient performance in their quest for success in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
