SHILLONG: The condition of 130 qualified Grade IV candidates (2011) of East Khasi Hills, who have been on indefinite hunger strike for the last three days protesting reluctance of the State government departments to remove the temporary appointees, deteriorated on Wednesday.

Four persons collapsed on the third day of the strike.

One was later admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital while two others refused to stay in the hospital and subsequently returned to Nongthymmai ground, where they are staging their protest. The president of the association Tourist Mylliempdah, who was shifted to a hospital on Wednesday night, has expressed firmness to continue the hunger strike saying that they would not call off their agitation until government responds to their demand.

Meanwhile, a delegation of the association met the chief secretary on Wednesday. The team was accompanied by Nongthymmai MLA Jemino Mawthoh.

“The chief secretary has stated that the matter has to be discussed with the chief minister,” Mylliempdah said adding that he also informed that government would send its reply on Thursday.
