SHILLONG, Dec 29: A list of the new textbooks has been released by the Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE), one month after it was announced that the textbooks from the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) would be adapted for classes I through X starting in the next academic year.
The list of textbooks that will be used in all Lower Primary, Upper Primary, and Secondary Schools run by the Meghalaya Board of School Education from Classes I to X starting in the academic year 2024, was released by MBoSE on December 22.
The MBoSE had also released an expression of interest for the printing and supply of NCERT textbooks in November.
The Voice of the People Party (VPP) had previously voiced its concerns and disapproval of the Meghalaya government’s recent announcement that NCERT textbooks would be used in schools beginning with the upcoming academic year.
The party has requested that, in order to improve the state’s educational system, the government reevaluate its strategy and participate in a more inclusive and thoughtful process.
Former chief minister and TMC parliamentary party president, Mukul Sangma had also asked the government not to go ahead with the “ridiculous decision” of adopting NCERT textbooks.
“I am telling the government – do not go ahead with this ridiculous decision. If they do, it will deprive our people now and in the future. We cannot allow it,” Sangma had said.
