Shillong, Jan 10: The Shillong Archdiocese on Wednesday announced the creation of five new Parishes carved out from the existing two parishes–Nongthymmai and Mawlai.
The decision was taken during a crucial meeting convened by the Shillong Archdiocese on Tuesday attended by the council members and parish priests from Mawlai and Nongthymmai. The two new parishes carved from Mawlai Parish are Mawiong and Mawtawar, and the other three which were part of Nongthymmai Parish are Umpling, Nongrah, and Madanrting. Shillong Archbishop Victor Lyngdoh said that the decision to open new Parishes is in harmony with the necessity for improved pastoral care and aligns with the long-aspired desires of the faithful.
