SHILLONG, Jan 24: The State BJP has denied the allegations of Congress that the proposed interactive session of Rahul Gandhi at USTM in Ri-Bhoi was cancelled by the Meghalaya government at the behest of New Delhi and Assam.
BJP spokesperson Mariahom Kharkrang said that USTM itself has now come up with a clarification on its social media handles where it is clearly stated that permission was denied to the Congress by the local administration because of non-compliance with the requisite formalities. The USTM was left with no other choice but to cancel the event, a fact that the Congress found convenient to ignore, Kharkrang said.
The State BJP has asked the Congress and its leaders either to be honest or maintain a “dignified silence”.
The party also said that this suppression of truth and giving an altogether new spin to reality has always been part of the “Congress guide to politics”.
“Propaganda is their rule book and yet they fault everyone else about it. It’s a party that never seems to tire of screaming ‘dictatorship’ when mentioning the BJP and conveniently forgets its own wrongdoings down the years. Remember Emergency,” Kharkrang said.
