Reds secure Brazilian forward ahead of I-League restart

Shillong, Feb 1: Shillong Lajong FC has made a significant move by signing Marcos Rudwere Genar Silva, a Brazilian centre forward, marking their fourth addition from Brazil in the 2023-24 season.
The strategic signing comes as the team gears up to recommence their I-League campaign.The acquisition of Silva occurred just days before the closure of the January transfer window, adding depth to Lajong’s international roster.
Silva joins three fellow Brazilians, namely Daniel Goncalves, Douglas Tardin, and Renan Paulino de Souza, along with Nepalese player Arik Bista, forming a diverse foreign contingent for Lajong.While Bista recently joined the squad, Tardin became a part of SLFC for the Super Cup.
Goncalves and de Souza have been integral members of the team since the commencement of the I-League season. Notably, Lajong has parted ways with two foreign players, Takuto Miki and Abdou Karim Samb, the latter’s departure being a recent development.
Although limited information is available about Marcos, it is known that he arrives in India from Slovakia, bringing an element of mystery to his addition to the team. The timing of the signing is crucial, as Shillong Lajong looks to bounce back from a disappointing Super Cup performance, where they faced setbacks in all three group games.
The I-League action for Shillong Lajong is set to resume on Saturday, with the team hosting Inter Kashi at the First Ground, Polo.
