SHILLONG: The Secretary of Law Department LM Sangma has asserted that no Acts are missing in Law Department and all the original Acts since inception of the State as passed by the State Legislature are intact and hence question of filing of an FIR does not arise.
The statement came from the Law Department a day after CSWO asked Law Secretary, LM Sangma, to file an FIR within seven days after it learnt that several gazettes and official notification had gone missing.
In a statement issued here on Thursday, LM Sangma said that the RTI applicant was allowed to inspect the original Acts in person and copies as requested were made available to her by the PIO.
“It is not known now why the applicant is bent on having gazette copies of these Acts, when original copies duly signed by Speaker and Governor/ President were made available to her,” he added.
He said that only 400 copies of Gazette notifications of each Act are published and printed by the Directorate of Printing & Stationery, Meghalaya and the same are naturally bound to get exhausted: after lapse of time.
He said that the department, to tide over the shortage of Gazette Copies, has been printing collection of Acts every year through the Directorate of Printing & Stationery, Meghalaya so that the same could be made available as and when necessary depending on availability of copies. The Collection of Acts was also made available to the RTI applicant
“The Department has also now started to upload all the State Acts and Rules in the Government of Meghalaya website. The modus operandi of directing a head of department to file an FIR by the applicant is highly questionable,” he said.
