SHILLONG, Feb 7: The state government on Wednesday said it has already clarified on the Lokayukta issue and those who still disagree or feel oppressed should find their answers in the procedure.
It also said mudslinging on the issue should stop as it is not benefitting anyone.
“This Lokayukta issue has already been explained clearly. Those that still disagree can follow the procedure. It is better if we set this mudslinging aside,” Cabinet Minister and MDA II spokesperson Ampareen Lyngdoh said.
She was reacting to the allegations of breach of contract by J. Rymmai, a retired IPS officer and of three who were sacked from the Lokayukta.
The premature termination, without valid justification, potentially breaches the terms of the contract, warranting an explanation for the apparent lapse in procedural fairness, Rymmai had said.
“I would have outrightly turned down the offer had there been any preconditions in the appointment. I have a strong reason to believe that this matter was meticulously and judiciously examined at various departments of the government, and I am sure that after being satisfied that my appointment as the Director of Enquiry and Prosecution was legitimate, the government’s approval was in line with the proposal sent from the Lokayukta,” he stated.
“If they feel they have been oppressed, there are several ways and routes they can take and find their answers without creating any further confusion,” Lyngdoh said.
Refusing to comment further, she said: “We have spoken enough on this and there is no need to ponder on this issue because I feel we are coming back to the same point over and over again.”
Several organisations including the Voice of the People Party have been crying foul over the “illegal sacking” of the three Lokayukta officers.
The VPP had even hit the streets demanding the reinstatement of the three officials but later suspended its stir following an assurance from the state government to hold a dialogue between the VPP representatives and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on the issue.
