Deoria: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram should tender their resignations after the statement of former telecom minister A Raja about them in the wake of 2G spectrum, Bharatiya Janata Party leader Uma Bharti said here on Tuesday.

Bharti, who has recently rejoined the BJP after a gap of five years, said A Raja, incarcerated in Tihar jail for his involvement in 2G spectrum scam, clearly told the CBI court that Dr Singh and Mr Chidamabaram were well aware of the 2G sepctrum allotment.

“Even the counsel for Raja has asked to summon Chidambaram for inetrrogation,” the BJP leader said while talking to reporters before a party workers conference here. There could be nothing more revealing than the statement of Raja himself, she said.

She said the PM and the union Home Minister could not escape their responsibilities and they should resign immediately on moral grounds. ”I also ask the silence of Congress president Sonia Gandhi on this issue because she always claimed to have taken action against the corrupt people,” she pointed out.

Bharti, who has been made incharge of UP affairs in view of the next assembly polls, said that BJP was well poised to make majority government in Uttar Pradesh. ”People are fed up of the corrupt practices of Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party government and have also seen the misgovernance of Mulayam-led Samajwadi Party when criminals ruled the roost,” she reasoned.

The caste-based politics of BSP and SP had spoiled the state to the great extent and the party like BJP had the largest acceptibility among all, she claimed.

The fire-brand leader and a product of Ayodhya movement in 1990s, Ms Uma Bharti said BSP and SP always indulged in the muslim appeasement policies but even failed to cater to minorities.

”The statistics say that muslims are the most happy lot in Gujarat where BJP government is in the power while they are at the receiving end in Uttar Pradesh,” she said.

Commenting on the removal of Maulana Mohammad Vastanvi from the post of vice chancellor of Darul Uloom, Deoband, she said he was penalised for speaking the truth. Maulana Vastanvi was speaking the language of muslim reformation and rightly praised the rule of Narendra Modi in Gujarat but victimised, she added. (UNI)
