Shillong, Feb 18: In a challenging start to the U-23 men’s Col CK Nayudu Trophy Plate Group final, Meghalaya faced a tough battle, being bundled out for a mere 108 runs on the opening day of the match against Nagaland.
The toss favored Meghalaya, who elected to bat first after a delay in the commencement of play due to unfavorable ground conditions at Sovima, Nagaland.
Despite the promising start by Mrityunjay Bharali, who showcased his batting prowess with an impressive score of 43 runs from 96 balls at the top of the order, Meghalaya struggled to build substantial partnerships, with no other batsman managing to cross the twenty-run mark.
As the day progressed, Nagaland responded with resilience, ending the day’s play at 50/1.
Although Meghalaya’s Abhishek Kumar made an early breakthrough by dismissing Zipa Pohena with the very first delivery of the innings, Nagaland regrouped effectively, ensuring they held their ground without any further loss till the close of play.
Despite the initial setback, Meghalaya remains determined to bounce back in the upcoming sessions of the match, as they aim to turn the tide in their favor and secure a favorable outcome in this crucial encounter.
With the competition poised delicately, both teams are gearing up for intense battles on the field, as they strive to claim victory and etch their names in the annals of cricketing history.
