SHILLONG, Feb 21: Three accused in the case of the murder of a driver in Rongjeng, West Garo Hills, have been arrested by the North Garo Hills district police.
The driver was brutally murdered and his body dumped at the Mendima Forest Reserve, last month.
This was informed by Home Minister (Police) Prestone Tynsong on the fourth day of the budget session here on Wednesday, while replying to a zero-hour notice raised by Kharkutta MLA Rupert Momin.
Tynsong added that the three accused are in judicial custody at present. “The police have not taken this case lightly and all efforts are being made to bring the case to a logical conclusion and give justice to the victim and his family.”
Momin further requested the government to take action against the anti-social elements that often use that corridor, where the body was found, stating that it is a known hub of anti-social elements, who use that route to travel to Assam and back into the state. He even emphasised that this is not the first time that such an incident has occurred.
It may be mentioned that the victim, who was identified as Udoy M Sangma of Rongjeng, who drives his own car was hired by five persons to drop them from Shallang to Dudnoi on January 13, after which he did not return.
