SHILLONG, Feb 22: Members will take time to familiarise with use of technology in the Assembly, remarked Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday.
It may be mentioned that as the CM presented a paperless budget on Wednesday, the members turned to booklets despite having tablets on their respective tables.
Speaking to reporters, Conrad said called it is a process. “One cannot expect the MLAs to suddenly change the way they work in a day,” he said.
A tech-savvy Conrad, who prefers technology, said, “I am sure as we move forward, people will start getting used to the benefit of using technology and computers.”
On the paperless budget presentation, Commissioner and Secretary of the Assembly Secretariat Andrew Simons said the measure aligns to transition the House proceedings to a paperless format.
He also said several innovations are being initiated towards the goal of making the Assembly fully paperless.
Starting from this session, hard copies of the list of business, questions, motions, resolutions, etc., will be limited and the documents will be uploaded on the NeVA website and the Assembly website.
Legislators will also be provided with the option of submitting their questions and other notices through the application, as the app hosts a secure page for each member.
