SHILLONG, Feb 24: Amid the push to better facilities at all Meghalaya Houses, the Meghalaya government has floated an Expression of Interest (EoI) for purchase of land in Bangalore Urban District (Karnataka) to set a Meghalaya House.
The General Administration Department has expressed interest in purchasing a land parcel measuring 5000 to 8000 square metre in Bangalore Urban District, Karnataka.
In pursuit of this objective, the GAD has invited landowners to provide a suitable land parcel as per the requirements.
According to the bidding document, the land parcel should be located in close proximity to the Kempegowda International Airport.
The distance from the aforementioned airport and Bangalore city would be given weightage while evaluating the proposals, according to the document.
It may be recalled that the state government is considering plans to improve the facilities at various Meghalaya Houses.
This was informed by Minister in charge of General Administration Department (GAD), Rakkam Sangma, during the ongoing Assembly session on Thursday.
The government is evaluating proposals to enhance infrastructure in the Meghalaya Houses at Vellore and Guwahati, where a significant number of Meghalaya residents seek medical care.
These houses serve as crucial accommodation for Meghalaya residents seeking medical treatment or pursuing educational opportunities outside the state.
In Guwahati, where most visitors are patients requiring medical treatment, the government is exploring options to build another Meghalaya House.
However, progress on this initiative has been hindered by delays in responses from the Assam government regarding land acquisition, he GAD minister had said in the Assembly.
