SHILLONG, March 5: Ahead of the highly anticipated Lok Sabha polls, Meghalaya’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) BDR Tiwari has stated that the state is prepared for the elections.
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday reviewed the overall preparedness of the state for the upcoming parliamentary polls.
The Deputy Election Commissioner in-charge Meghalaya, Manoj Kumar Sahoo and his team held a session through video conferencing with the CEO, BDR Tiwari along with the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs).
The CEO, however, refused to divulge details of the meeting.
Official sources said that the meeting with the ECI was a general review of election preparedness with all DCs and SPs of Meghalaya.
It was also informed that the Deputy Election Commissioner in-charge Meghalaya also took stock of law and order arrangements and security.
Meanwhile, Meghalaya DGP, LR Bishnoi, said all police officers were present at the meeting.
The DGP assured adherence to all guidelines issued by the ECI and to prevent any untoward incidents.
He informed that the discussion touched upon the sensitive zones and areas and preparedness for smooth conduct of the polls.
Informing that Meghalaya will receive the same quantum of CAPF as in previous years, Bishnoi said the state will also be sending 12 companies of the force to other states.
A meeting of all the DGPs of the Northeastern states will be held on Wednesday via video conferencing.
“All the DGs will share their concerns on the border areas. We will finalise a strategy to be adopted during elections,” he added.
