SHILLONG: The Home Department will submit a proposal to the State Government for procurement of light bullet proof jackets and other combat materials in the wake of killing of five policemen by GNLA militants recently.

The five policemen, who were attacked by GNLA, were not wearing bullet proof jackets at the time of the incident.

The decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the Home department chaired by Home Minister Roshan Warjri.

A senior official said that during the meeting it was decided to submit a proposal to Government to procure more sophisticated protective gears and weapons to check the militant activities.

It is also learnt that an instruction had also gone from the police headquarter to the armed policemen who are engaged in anti-insurgency operations to wear bullet proof vests though they are heavy.

It was earlier reported that many SWAT members do not prefer to wear them as they are heavy.
