Itanagar: The People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) on Sunday said the state would fail to prosper and meet its full potential unless its parties, tribes and institutions started working towards evolving a model of development unique to the state
.If states like Sikkim and Nagaland are today recognized on all indices of development, why should Arunachal, with more natural and cultural resources, lag behind, PPA president Nikh Kamin said.
Taking a dig at the just-concluded Adventure Festival in Menchukha, Kamin said there would be no question of promoting white-water rafting as part of the government’s adventure tourism package once dam comes up on Yomgo river for setting up 18 hydropower projects in West Siang district.
“What is required is not just sending bunches of officials and leaders to Gangtok and Kohima to imitate and adopt, but to frame a time-bound and pragmatic policy decision backed by matching resources in hand,” Kamin said. Arunachal could outshine Sikkim and Gujarat if there was a ‘major shift from centralized and New Delhi-imposed policy planning to a decentralized Itanagar.’
The solution, he suggested, is to ‘go for regional model of development, with everything happening from Itanagar – as is the case with Sikkim and Nagaland.’ (PTI)
