Temporary security posts to prevent exodus

Agartala: With the exodus from remote villages in eastern parts of Tripura following kidnapping of 14 villagers in two separate incidents, the state administration has decided to install a few more security posts in the Indo-Bangladesh border along the unfenced area.

Director General of Police (DGP) K Saleem Ali said after holding a meeting with the victim families led by Pradesh Congress Committee president Surajit Datta on Monday here the abducted people had been shifted to Bangladesh hideouts and the state had already taken up the issue with Bangladesh.

”We are in the final stage of holding a flag meeting with Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) for rescuing the kidnapped persons and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) is facilitating the process,” Ali said, adding that he would personally be present in the flag meeting.

He, however, pointed out that security was enhanced in the entire stretch and the top cops have been regularly reviewing the situation.

It was also decided to install an adequate number of security posts with all equipments along the unfenced border in eastern part of the state.

As many as 53 families in Chawmanu area of North Tripura have left the hamlets fearing further militant strikes following kidnapping of eight poor tribals who had been kidnapped by outlawed NLFT militants last week and demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh for their release. (UNI)
