MAWKYRWAT, March 20: UDP president Metbah Lyngdoh on Wednesday heaped praise on the regional parties, giving them full credit for Meghalaya’s statehood, while casting aspersions on national parties, and alleging that they are insensitive to people’s concerns.
He was speaking at a public meeting of the Regional Democratic Alliance (RDA) at Ranikor, 50 km from Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills on Tuesday.
Lyngdoh said, “Regional parties were criticised a lot in the past … but let me remind you that we got our state Meghalaya because of the APHLC (All Party Hill Leaders Conference) and the HSPDP, and the national parties had nothing to do with it.”
He recalled the tragic loss of lives in untoward incidents along the interstate border such as the Mukroh case. “If they (national parties) are serious about governance for the betterment of our people, they should have taken action. But they were playing politics,” Lyngdoh alleged.
Explaining the importance of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections to the public, the UDP chief advised the voters to take the upcoming exercise seriously and with responsibility.
