Accused a native of Meghalaya

NEW DELH: The 32-year-old teacher of a private school, accused of molesting a 10-year-old girl, has been terminated from his services by the school authorities.

Nirmal Tamang, the accused, has confessed to molesting around 20 girls during his eight years at the school, police said. Tamang, a native of Meghalaya, used to teach students of Class V to Class XI.

He often used to force girls to stay even after school hours on one pretext or the other and molested them, police sources said.

He even molested girls as punishment. Sources said that the school management had received such complaints against him earlier as well, but these were covered up saying that a departmental inquiry had been initiated.

Tamang was on Thursday produced before a Delhi court which sent him to 14 days’ judicial custody.

Tamang, who taught English, was arrested from his home on Wednesday after an FIR was lodged against him at the Greater Kailash police station.

“The incident came to light when a girl started crying after being ill-treated by Tamang, following which fellow students complained to the Principal of the school. Realising the gravity of the situation, the Principal gave a written complaint to police,” a police officer said. (PTI)
