SHILLONG, March 30: The soft launch of Angelcure Research Hospital and Institute (ARHI) is expected to cater to the healthcare needs of the people in areas close to Jorabat and the Northeast beyond.
Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister, Alexander L. Hek carried out the soft launch of the “strategically located” ARHI on Saturday.
This 200-bed private facility, to be upgraded to a multi-specialty hospital in the next few months, is situated opposite the North East Cancer Hospital.
More than 30 specialists have been recruited at the hospital to meet the requirements of the patients. The hospital has close to 300 nurses and medical technicians.
“We are recruiting nurses not only from Meghalaya but also from Assam and other parts of the Northeast,” Hek said, adding that the number of doctors would be increased to 100 soon.
Dr. Feroze, a specialist at the hospital and a member of its board said ARHI is a super-specialty tertiary care hospital that will have centres of excellence for cancer care, cardiology, neurology, and other diseases.
Neurosurgeon Dr. Simranjeet Singh said every specialist or department will want to be the best for the benefit of the people. “Everyone will be trying to push theirs as a centre of excellence. That itself will help the hospital and the people, plus the goal is common, which is to do work that is better than what is already being done,” he said.
Cardiac specialist Bikash Rai Das said ARHI will be the first private hospital in Meghalaya to perform heart surgery. “Only NEIGRIHMS, a government set-up with limitations, has the facility to date. This will be the first private setup that will be able to operate on any kind of heart patient, who need not travel to Mumbai or Delhi for treatment,” he said.
Local MLA Sosthenes Sohtun and former DHS Aman War along with the board members of ARHI were present during the inauguration of the outpatient department.
