March Goes Out with a Bang… and Thunderstorms!
As March bids adieu, it does so with a dramatic flair, treating Shillong to a medley of weather chaos – thunderstorms, heavy downpours, and even hailstones in places.
The month did the impossible (not really), offering a spectacle of sun, rain (heavy at times), and politicians emerging from their cocoons. All that’s missing now is snow, because why not?
Shillong took Charles Dickens’ words to heart, embodying his description of March: “One of those March days when the sun shines hot and the wind blows cold: when it is summer in the light, and winter in the shade.”
Well, we certainly got the summer in the light part, but winter decided to stick around in the shade.
The month started on a chilly note, however the end was expected to be a welcome to the warm sun, while locals waiting to shed layers and heavy jackets. But alas, the rain gods had other plans – perhaps they were waiting for the Umiam dam retrofitting work to wrap up before unleashing their full fury upon the city.
So here let us brace ourselves for whatever weather mischief April has in store.
