SHILLONG: KHADC Chief Executive Member, PN Syiem withdrew his resignation on Tuesday citing continuous pressure from his supporters and the MDCs to continue with his job as the CEM of KHADC.
“I have decided to reconsider my stand and withdrew my resignation as my supporters and the MDCs wanted me to retain the post. As an elected representative, I can’t be too rigid on my decision”, said PN Syiem.
Speaking at a press conference held here on Tuesday, PN Syiem said the CEM’s job is very heavy binding him to ignore his own constituency, “So I thought of resigning from this post so as to get enough time for the people of the constituency”, added the CEM.
It may be mentioned that Syiem who is also the MLA and an MDC representing Mawsynram in East Khasi Hills tendered his resignation to MPCC president, Friday Lyngdoh and chairman of KHADC Fabian Lyngdoh on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Syiem denied reports of the MPCC pressure for his resignation. “The report is very wrong”, he said.
When asked about the possibility of the recent Executive Committee (EC) which involved Maheswari Mining Pvt Ltd to surrender their trading license as the main reason, Syiem said “I had my own reason when I tendered the resignation but this reason”.
However, Syiem who earlier said that he withdrew his resignation following pressure from the people of his constituency said that he was not aspiring for the post of the twelfth man in Dr Mukul Sangma’s cabinet even if his constituents force him to. “I don’t think I’m ready to be a minister in the state cabinet”, Syiem stated.
Replying to a query on the possibility of losing more votes in the next election due to his resignation and subsequent withdrawal, Syiem said, “I will win the next election with majority votes since my electorates will know that I am not running after the CEM’s post.”
It may be mentioned that earlier on Monday, the Khasi Hills Autonomous Democratic Alliance and MPCC in its Joint Parliamentary Party meet unanimously refused to accept Syiem’s resignation.
