JOWAI, April 12: With eight classrooms designed to not only accommodate more students but also provide spacious learning environment for both students and teachers, the new school building of Tome Memorial Higher Secondary School in Mooralong, Jowai, was on Friday inaugurated.
Gerhard Albert, president of KHUBLEI Germany, who was the chief guest for the inaugural programme, commended the Jaintia Hills Development Society, the school managing committee, and the teachers for their hard work and dedication that led to the completion of the new school building.
He emphasised the need for further enhancements in school infrastructure and amenities, stressing the importance of cooperation among all stakeholders.
Albert also spoke about technological advancements and their impact on people’s lives, urging students to responsibly make use of the benefits of technology, while being wary of its negative aspects. He expressed optimism that the new school building would contribute to improvements in the teaching-learning process.
Director of Jaintia Hills Development Society, Rev. Fr. Manbha Pakem, on the other hand, highlighted the organisation’s activities and achievements in supporting the welfare of the community through collaborative efforts with various stakeholders.
Bishop Ferdinand Dkhar of Jowai Diocese, on the other hand, encouraged teachers to identify and nurture the unique talents and skills of their students from a young age to promote academic and extracurricular growth.
Others who were part of the programme include Additional Deputy Commissioner FB Basan, Secretary and Supervisor of Education Department D Lamare, local priests, headmen, teachers, students, members of the community, et al.
