TURA, April 14: Congress candidate for Tura seat Saleng A Sangma on Sunday clubbed the BJP and the NPP as one and the same, asserting that Congress was the only secular party which can bring peace and harmony to all communities in the country.
Sangma was speaking at one of his election campaigns at a locality in Tura.
In his address, Saleng recalled many instances of discrimination by the BJP and the RSS against smaller communities like the Dalits, Adivasis as well as Christians living in the country.
He alleged that other parties like the JDU, Samajwadi Party, Shiv Sena and RJD were also against the BJP and its radical ideology.
“Its own ministers are unhappy with the workings of the BJP and many of them have resigned of late. A sitting BJP MP as well as other ministers were some of who resigned today,” he claimed.
Speaking on the issue of CAA, Saleng said that the Act would be applicable in Shillong and Tura.
“Both places are headquarters of their own regions. As all necessary works for all districts start from these headquarters it is bound to spread to other areas,” he said, adding that the exemption of the Sixth Schedule areas is just an excuse and the consequences of the Act could penetrate anywhere in future.
Saleng also said that there was no ILP in the state, which could have protected it to some extent.
During the meeting, youths from Balsrigittim locality also donated some money to the Congress candidate.
