SHILLONG: Additional Chief Secretary Barkos Warjri is likely to succeed incumbent Chief Secretary WMS Pariat, who is retiring on December 31 this year. Another Additional Chief Secretary BK Dev Verma (1979) will not get a chance to become the Chief Secretary due to the seniority of Warjri. Though Warjri (1978 batch) originally belonged to Manipur-Tripura cadre, he switched over to Assam-Meghalaya cadre a few years back. According to sources, Government is also contemplating to give six-month extension to Pariat (1977 batch) in view of the upcoming District Council and Lok Sabha elections due in early part of 2014.
