BSF, police seize over 19,000 kg sugar in 48 hrs

SHILLONG, April 19: In two joint operations, the troops of 200th Battalion BSF along with the Meghalaya police seized a whopping 19,000 kg of sugar intended for smuggling to Bangladesh near the border area in South Garo Hills in the last 48 hours.
Based on specific information, BSF troops along with Meghalaya police planned a special operation and laid a mobile check post (MCP) near Baghmara. They intercepted a suspicious Bolero pick-up vehicle but upon noticing the checkpoint, the driver and co-driver fled from the spot.
Subsequently, the joint party conducted a thorough search of the vehicle and recovered 25 bags of sugar concealed under sand. The seized sugar and vehicle were handed over to the Baghmara Police Station for further legal action.
In another successful operation, the joint party recovered 364 bags of sugar stockpiled in an abandoned house located near the international border.
The seized sugar bags were intended for smuggling to Bangladesh through the Indo-Bangla border in South Garo Hills.
