amily Welfare Minister AL Hek on Saturday claimed that Meghalaya has a good literacy rate and has sound healthcare facilities.

The Health Minister made the claims while speaking at the ninth North East Business Summit 2013, a flagship conference of the Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and supported by the Ministry of DoNER, at Dibrugarh, Assam.

Hek said that owing to the fact that the region is richly endowed with medicinal plants and herbs the pharmaceutical sector has huge potential for development in the State.

“An array of PPP initiatives has been introduced in the State,” Hek said, adding that Meghalaya also has huge potential in sectors like IT & ITeS and mineral-related industries, among others.
