State basketball team set to compete in 67th Nat’l School Games 2024

Shillong, April 26: A contingent representing Meghalaya State is gearing up to showcase their basketball prowess at the prestigious 67th National School Games 2024.
The event, slated to take place from April 25th to April 30th, 2024, will unfold in Gurugram, Haryana, under the auspices of the School Games Federation of India.Comprising 12 athletes and two officials, the Meghalaya squad has been meticulously selected to vie for victory in the under-17 Boys Championship at Gurugram. The Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs spearheaded the rigorous selection process to assemble the finest talents from the state.
All 12 athletes hail from various corners of Meghalaya, representing different schools within the state. The roster includes seven athletes from East Khasi Hills, with one each from North Garo Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills, East Jaintia Hills, East Garo Hills, and Ri Bhoi District.Guiding the team towards excellence are Smti Yolinda Hynniewta, serving as Coach, and Renaldy Jyrwa, the appointed Manager. Their collective mission extends beyond victory on the court; it encompasses fostering a conducive environment for the holistic development of young athletes, nurturing their mental, physical, and social well-being.
The National School Games stand as a beacon for identifying and nurturing sporting talent among school children, laying the foundation for a robust sporting culture while promoting overall growth and well-roundedness.
As the Meghalaya team embarks on this exhilarating journey, they carry with them the hopes and aspirations of their state, poised to make a mark on the national stage.
