SHILLONG, April 29: The East Khasi Hills district administration will hold a meeting on Tuesday with representatives of the Shillong Cantonment Board and police officials to discuss the “illegal settlement” at Lum Survey.
Informing this after their meeting with Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong and East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner SC Sadhu at the Secretariat on Monday, HYC president Roy Kupar Synrem said, “We have found that there are 80 to 100 households settled illegally at Lum Survey. We have raised the issue with the Shillong Cantonment Board as the land falls under their jurisdiction. At the same time, we have raised the same issue with the Deputy CM in the presence of the DC.”
“We have made it clear that we are not concerned about the ownership of the land but these illegal settlers have turned this plot of land into a hub of criminal activities. We want this settlement to be demolished and the illegal settlers to be chased out from there,” Synrem added.
Making their stand clear on the issue, he said, “If the district administration, state government and the Cantonment Board do not take proper steps to demolish these illegal settlement, the HYC will take action on its own and we will do whatever is necessary to chase them away.”
