Shillong, May 1: In a groundbreaking announcement, the Meghalaya Sport Climbing and Mountaineering Association (MeSCMA) disclosed that Wallambok Lyngdoh, the esteemed General Secretary, has been appointed as the Leader of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) sponsored expedition to Mt. Tinchinkhang (6010m) in the Sikkim Himalayas.
The appointment of Lyngdoh signifies a notable recognition of his expertise and leadership within the mountaineering community. Furthermore, IMF has handpicked nine climbing members from eight states across the North Eastern Region, among whom two hail from Meghalaya. Ngandarihun Sohshang, a proud resident of Mawlai Nongpdeng, Shillong, and Rilang Dkhar, residing in Umshaken, Ri-bhoi District, are set to embark on this exhilarating journey.
Commencing from May 1st to the 21st, 2024, the expedition marks a significant milestone as IMF orchestrates its inaugural mixed expedition in the majestic terrain of Sikkim Himalayas. Collaborating with the Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure and Eco-Tourism (IHCAE) in Chemchey, Sikkim, IMF aims to provide a platform for young mountaineers from the North Eastern Region to explore their potential in this challenging yet rewarding endeavor.
IMF, revered as the apex national body for Mountaineering and Allied Sports, stands as a beacon of support, promotion, and regulation for national and international climbing endeavors in India. Affiliated with the International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (UIAA), IMF extends its influence to the realm of competitive Olympic Sport of SPORT CLIMBING, boasting affiliation with the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC).
The association takes pride in its role in nurturing and cultivating aspiring mountaineers and sport climbers, both boys and girls, within the state. Through initiatives like this, Meghalaya reaffirms its commitment to fostering a culture of adventure and exploration among its residents.
